At the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations at Coventry University we have developed a suite of postgraduate qualifications inspired by our city’s proud history of peace and reconciliation.

Grounded in the spirit of the Provost of Coventry Cathedral who urged people not to seek revenge but to forgive following the bombing of the City during the Second World War, both the Cathedral and the City Council have promoted and developed the ‘peace identity’ of the city.

This identity was further enhanced with the establishment of the Centre for the Study of Forgiveness and Reconciliation at Coventry University which has now become the Centre for Trust, Peace and Social Relations.

Delivered at both Master’s and Postgraduate Certificate level, the programme provides students with in-depth knowledge and understanding of peace and conflict theories, issues and practices and develops their ability to apply theory and case studies to peacebuilding in complex situations.

Offering career enhancing skills such as in-depth critical analysis and the development of perspective and structured, informed arguments. Those progressing to the full Master’s programme will also take a module on project management specifically in peacebuilding and conflict resolution scenarios.

Our courses are designed and delivered by our active researchers who are engaged in applied research and practice around the world, providing course content that is contemporary and unique to enable you to develop reflective practice in a highly interactive and supportive learning environment.

‘I enjoyed the method of teaching, the interaction with other students and the availability of study resources.   The course is well structured and organised, lecturers are approachable and friendly, overall this programme developed both my personal and academic skills’

Our teaching draws from a range of disciplines such as political science and peace studies, economics and geography, social psychology and anthropology, to better understand and confront global challenges. By providing practical skills alongside academic knowledge, we ensure that all our courses enable students to build upon their existing experience and knowledge to develop a valuable range of key skills and personal attributes for a wide variety of careers in related fields such as international development, in charities and in policy settings.

All of our courses are studied via distance learning which allows students to complete their studies online whilst continuing with their career. At each stage of the programme you will have the opportunity to attend a short residential workshop to supplement and condense your learning, to meet your cohort and teachers, and to build your network.

On joining the course you will become part of our learning community allowing you to share your ideas and experience with fellow students, world-leading researchers and our international network of alumni.

Coventry University is well-known for its teaching excellence and high quality student experience. It ranked 15th in the Guardian University Guide (2017), and has been the Times Modern University of the Year 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Alumni George Kut studied for his MA with us in 2011, since completing his Master’s degree George has gone on to study for his PhD and work as an independent consultant for a range of international organisations. He comments:

  • The confidence I gained from attaining MA degree from a credible UK University helped me to decide to work for my former employer and other organisations as an independent consultant. I have since with a number of organisations funded by DFID and USAID, UNDP Nepal, UN Women, UNICEF, Mercy Corps among others. I also was recently the lead facilitator in the British government supported International Peace Support Training Centre.
