Read tBP Imagehis 6th issue of Building Peace  dedicated to the transformative and revolutionary power of storytelling! Like peace, stories are about process and product; stories shape the way we interact with our surroundings and how we define our role in the world. We find purpose and belonging through stories—as individuals, communities, and nations.

Issue 6 explores a wide range of storytelling mediums and the potential of narratives to both incite conflict and promote peace. Our authors themselves represent a range of perspectives but they share a deep understanding and appreciation for the ways stories are part of social change processes. Our authors include:

  • Tramaine Chelan’gat Hugie, former director of community engagement at StoryCorps, on the power of stories for participants and listeners;
  • Dave Loew, Executive Creative Director at Leo Burnett, on “selling” peace;
  • Jasmine El-Gamal, Truman National Security Fellow and a civil servant at the Department of Defense, on a proactive approach to counter extremist narratives;
  • Cara Mertes, Director of JustFilms at the Ford Foundation, on the role of socially-engaged film role in revealing truths about our collective past; and
  • Tara Sonenshine, Distinguished Fellow in the School of Media and Public Affairs at The George Washington University, on how personal stories can lead to widespread policy change.

The articles in this issue of Building Peace are relatable and touching; we encourage you to share the magazine widely with your networks.
