The Kroc Cast Podcast Convenes Peace Studies Conversations on a Host of Global Issues

The University of Notre Dame’s Kroc Institute for International Peace Studies has launched a new podcast, , to bring peace studies theory and practice to bear on a host of current events and global issues.

In the first six months, podcast episodes have addressed topics including global migration crises, U.S. and Iran relations, young adults, pop culture, and peacebuilding, nuclear disarmament and the Catholic Church, the role of international law in preventing preemptive violence, and peacebuilding in fragile states.

Each episode, ranging from 25 to 45 minutes in length, highlights the research and peacebuilding work of Institute faculty, alumni, students, and visiting scholars and brings this work into conversation with peace studies leaders and practitioners around the world.

Previous podcast hosts and guests have included:

  • David Cortright, Kroc Institute Director of Policy Studies and the Peace Accords Matrix Project;
  • Diane Desierto, Associate Professor of Human Rights Law and Global Affairs at Notre Dame’s Keough School of Global Affairs;
  • George A. Lopez, the Rev. Theodore Hesburgh Professor Emeritus of Peace Studies;
  • Samuel Moyn, the Henry R. Luce Professor of Jurisprudence and Professor of History at Yale Law School;
  • James Muller, Co-Founder of the Nobel Peace Prize winning organization International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War;
  • Jean Baptiste Mvukiyehe, priest and leader of efforts to address traumatic memories and country-wide healing following the Rwandan genocide;
  • Ambassador (ret.) Susan D. Page, Former U.S. Ambassador to South Sudan, Visiting Professor of the Practice at the Keough School;
  • Mary Ellen O’Connell, Robert and Marion Short Professor of Law and Research Professor of International Dispute Resolution; and

Upcoming episodes will focus on teaching peace in active or post-conflict zones, interreligious peacebuilding, grassroots peacebuilding efforts in Uganda, restorative justice efforts in the U.S. criminal justice system, international mediation, and peace research methodology in Cambodia.
