At PCDN we were planning on launching a group career coaching option to help even more people advance careers of impact.
Then, COVID-19 happened. So here is the deal: We are opening four decades of expertise and to help you. Once a week. For free.
Join us via every week via Zoom for a highly interactive session and come with any questions, your challenges, or favorite tips on building a career of social impact. We will do our best to guide you in this time of crisis.
When: We will be online at Noon Eastern Standard time every Thursday for the foreseeable future as long as there interest from our community. You only need to register once to participate (see below for a full Questions & Answers on this initiative.)
Focus of the Sessions: Most weeks we will pick a theme based on the feedback from our community, but we will welcome a broad range of questions. For our Session on Thursday July 23 we will be joined by leading expert Abdi Hussein (bio is below), Country Director for Equal Access Kenya
Abdi will share strong insights from his three decade + career working on peacebuilding, development, legal and justice reform, and programming in the areas of civic inclusion & preventing violent extremism. He has consulted for and worked with many leading NGOs and development organizations including Equal Access, PACT, National Democratic Institute, DAI, Muslim Aid, World Food Program, and many others.
In this highly interactive session, Abdi will provide actionable tips how to build a high impact career in the development sector including core skills needed, strategies for landing consultancies, the challenges of working in the field, and there will be substantial time for open discussion with the PCDN.global community.
Abdirashid Abdullahi Hussein is Equal Access International's Kenya Country Director. He has worked for various USAID programs to deliver on their mandate in East Africa. Most recently with Development Training Services based in Arlington, VA, Hussein was a Senior Researcher in violent extremism. He was the Senior Program Manager with Adeso a regional humanitarian and development organization where he led a team of 20 local staff in a cash-based intervention to mitigate the impact on livelihoods in the drought-stricken population of the lower Juba region of Somalia.
Hussein held senior positions with the Kenyan government between 2011 and 2016 most notably as one of the authors of the current constitution. He also served on a board that vetted judicial officers from the magistracy to the Supreme Court of Kenya.
Hussein received his Bachelor of Education at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, Kenya, and attended Rhodes University, Grahamstown, South Africa where he obtained a Masters of Arts in African History. He graduated with a Master of Science in Conflict Analysis and Resolution from the Institute of Conflict Analysis and Resolution (now the Carter School School for Peace and Conflict Resolution) at George Mason University, Fairfax, Virginia.
