Application deadline 15 May

As a leading humanitarian service organization, Rotary International promotes peace locally and globally as part of its mission. The Rotary Peace Fellowship program offers fully funded master’s degrees and advanced professional development certificate programs in disciplines related to peace and development studies.

Every year, up to 130 individuals are selected to receive a generous award from The Rotary Foundation that funds tuition and fees, room and board, round-trip transportation, and internship and field-study expenses through one of the Rotary Peace Centers located at leading universities around the world. Through academic training, practice, and global networking opportunities, the Rotary Peace Centers program develops the capacity of fellows to become effective catalysts for peace.

Rotary is looking for peace and development professionals from across the globe with relevant experience and a record of prior achievements in peacebuilding. Our candidates demonstrate their potential for future growth and impact as leaders in the field.

Fellowship components:

  • Master’s degree fellows study peace and development issues with research-informed teaching and a diverse student body.

The program includes a two- to three-month field study experience to develop practical skills and career connections. Workshops and field trips develop professional skills in peacebuilding and expand civic and cultural perspectives. Fellows present their master’s research at a final seminar prior to graduation.

  • A one-year Professional Development Certificate for working professionals blends classroom learning, trainings, and field visits with an independent social change project.

After 10 weeks of onsite coursework and activities, fellows return to their communities to implement a nine-month social change initiative they are passionate about, with the support of mentors and interactive online sessions. They return to campus to present the results and impact of their initiatives at a capstone conference.

Studying at a Rotary Peace Center opens the door to a variety of careers, such as foreign policy, human rights, international law, environmental justice, peace communications, sustainable development and humanitarian action. You will build a global network with experts, peace fellows and Rotary members, while gaining advanced skills and knowledge in conflict transformation, international issues, cross-cultural awareness, negotiation and mediation, and peace and conflict research.

Master’s degree programs are located at:

  • Duke University and University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, United States
  • International Christian University, Tokyo, Japan
  • University of Bradford, Bradford, England
  • University of Queensland, Brisbane, Australia
  • Uppsala University, Uppsala, Sweden

Professional development certificate programs are located at:

  • Makerere University, Kampala, Uganda
  • Bahçesehir University, Istanbul, Türkiye

More than 1,800 program alumni are working as change agents for peace in over 140 countries with local and national governments, NGOs, United Nations agencies, and other entities.
