Application deadline 15 May

As a leading humanitarian service organization, Rotary International promotes peace locally, regionally and globally as part of its mission. The Rotary Peace Fellowship program offers a fully funded postgraduate diploma in peace and development studies through its one-year professional development certificate program. Up to 80 individuals will be selected to receive a generous award from The Rotary Foundation that funds tuition, living expenses, round-trip transportation, and field-study experiences at one of the Rotary Peace Centers located at Makerere University in Uganda or Bahçe?ehir University in Turkey.

Rotary is looking for mid-career peace and development professionals with at least five years of relevant experience, and who have a record of prior achievements in peacebuilding and potential for future growth and impact as leaders in the field.

Candidates should either be from regions in Africa or the Middle East, have worked in one of those regions, work with communities or initiatives associated with one of those regions, or demonstrate compelling interest in peacebuilding approaches within Africa or the Middle East.

Fellowship components:

  • Coursework timeline: Program begins with a two-week online course followed by a ten-week on-site course
  • Workshops and field trips: Develop professional skills in peacebuilding and development and visit sites of civic and cultural significance
  • Social Change Initiative: A nine-month social change initiative with interactive online sessions
  • Capstone seminar: A one-week on-site capstone seminar which overlaps with incoming cohort
  • Networking: Expand your network of academics and peace and conflict prevention experts, and partner with Rotary members on peacebuilding initiatives
  • Alumni connections: Access a growing number of Rotary Peace Fellow graduates for career and collaboration opportunities (more than 1,700 alumni working in over 140 countries)

Participating as a Rotary Peace Fellow opens the door to new opportunities in peacebuilding, social entrepreneurship and impact careers. You will build a global network with peace fellows and Rotary members, while gaining advanced skills and knowledge in conflict transformation, regional issues, cross-cultural awareness, negotiation and mediation, and peace and conflict research.

Eligibility

In addition to regional qualifications, candidates for the certificate program also must:

  • Have at least five years of related work experience
  • Be proficient in English
  • Have a bachelor’s degree
  • Demonstrate leadership skills
  • Have a strong commitment to cross-cultural understanding and peace

Candidates must have at least three years between the completion of their most recent academic degree program (undergraduate or graduate degree) and their intended start date for the fellowship. Candidates currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program, or who will be enrolled in the upcoming academic year, are not eligible to apply.
