The Venice Academy of Human Rights is an international and interdisciplinary programme of excellence for human rights education, research and debate. It provides an enriching forum for emerging ideas, practices and policy options in the field of human rights. The Academy hosts distinguished experts to promote critical and useful research and innovation through the exchange of current knowledge.

The 2018 Venice Academy of Human Rights will focus on “Migration, Mobility and Diversity: New Horizons for Human Rights”, under the coordination of Professor Crépeau, former U.N. Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights of Migrants from 2011 to 2017, current Director of the Centre for Human Rights and Legal Pluralism at McGill University, Canada and recently appointed 2017-2018 International Francqui Professor at Université catholique de Louvain.

This includes the opportunity during the so-called 'panel presentations' for a number of selected participants to present and discuss their own "work in progress" such as drafts of articles, chapters of books or doctoral theses and receive comments from faculty members and peers.

The Faculty

The faculty is composed by internationally acclaimed experts such as Elspeth Guild, Jean Monnet Professor ad personam at Queen Mary, University of London as well as at the Radboud University Nijmegen, Netherlands; Didier Bigo, Professor at King's College London Department of War studies and MCU Research Professor at Sciences-Po Paris, and Ryszard Cholewinski, Senior Migration Specialist in the ILO’s Regional Office for Arab States in Beirut, among others.
