Overview of the Position
Social Solutions International is recruiting a Chief of Party (COP) for an anticipated USAID-funded civil society and media strengthening program in El Salvador. The goal of this program is to build the capacity of select civil society organizations (CSOs) and independent media in terms of organizational development, evidence-based decision-making, financial capacity, networking capabilities, and advocacy with both constituents and governmental stakeholders. The media strengthening component is anticipated to focus on increasing understanding the function of a free press in a vibrant democracy.  Support will be provided through a combination of technical support, training, and financial support through a small grants program.


The COP, to be based in San Salvador, will play a lead role in interacting with USAID, senior government officials, other donors, and leaders of participating CSOs and media organizations.  The COP is responsible for making major implementation decisions and reporting to USAID.
Provide overall leadership, technical direction and oversight of day-to-day activity management;
Actively liaise with country and development partners and effectively communicate with USAID and key stakeholders;
Be responsible for efficient and effective performance (financial, operational, technical, etc.), compliant grants-management, and timely, high quality deliverables;
Use appropriate judgment in the development and delivery of products and presentations aimed at different audiences, including decision-makers;
Provide guidance and support to technical teams and partners;
Supervise national and international activity staff and consultants, maintain a culture of collaboration, teamwork, and compliance.
A Master’s degree and at least 10 years of experience, preferably in managing NGO strengthening, governance, and/or international development activities
A minimum of 5 years of experience in civil society and/or media capacity building and grants programs
Demonstrated ability to establish productive relationships with senior government officials, the private sector, civil society, and donor community
Proven leadership, management, communication and interpersonal skills
Experience working in El Salvador preferred, experience in Central America required
Working proficiency in English and Spanish required
