About Evidence Action

Evidence Action is a global nonprofit organization with an approach distinctive in international development - we exclusively scale interventions that are backed by strong evidence and can be delivered with exceptional cost-effectiveness. Our programs have grown since our founding in 2013 to reach over 280 million people annually. We deliver high impact for every dollar spent, as recognized by GiveWell, The Life You Can Save, and Charity Navigator.

We do development differently. We take a data-driven approach to identifying, scaling, and continuously improving programs which deliver immense impact, ensuring these solutions measurably improve the lives of millions. Our Deworm the World Initiative has helped governments in Africa and Asia deliver over 1.4 billion childhood deworming treatments, improving health, education, and incomes. Dispensers for Safe Water provides sustained safe water access to over 4 million people in rural Africa, preventing childhood illness and deaths.

We drive innovation: Our Accelerator builds the next generation of exceptional programs, taking an approach most similar to a venture capital model. We are ruthless in exiting programs which do not meet our criteria; those that advance deliver outsized impact for millions of people.

We are global. Across eight countries in Africa and Asia, our 400+ people are united by a tremendous passion for our mission and impact. We are strong because of our diversity of experience, geography, and background - with over 90% of our people in the countries where our impact is focused.

We have big ambitions. Our goal is to double our impact by 2024, to fulfill our vision of a world where hundreds of millions of people in the poorest places have better opportunities and their lives are measurably improved. We believe in bold and urgent action - because poverty doesn’t wait, and neither should we.

We need great people. Our success to date is due to the collective work of our amazing staff. To achieve our ambitious goals, we are looking for people who share our passion for evidence, cost-effectiveness, and scale. We seek individuals who take an entrepreneurial approach, enjoy tackling hard problems, and have a bias to action and results. If our vision and approach excite you as much as it does us, we invite you to join us.

About the Accelerator Team

Evidence Action’s Accelerator is our engine for growth. The Accelerator is a unique model in global development, designed to select and massively scale only those programs which meet exceptional standards for cost-effectiveness, proven impact, and scalability. Focusing on health, nutrition, and WASH, we evaluate scores of interventions and employ a venture capital-type ‘funnel’ model to exit those which do not meet our criteria. The result is a select set of programs for which we develop robust delivery models, test for impact, and scale to deliver outsized value for millions of people across Africa and Asia.

This newly created role will work alongside the Director, MNCH, Accelerator and support the incubation and operationalization of next generation cost-effective, high-impact programs for Evidence Action. Our ambitions are great - we seek to double our organization-wide global impact by 2024, and the Accelerator is the main driver of this growth. As we enter a major growth phase, this individual will help deliver on our mandate for high-quality growth, driving the sourcing and development of new programs in the MNCH domain.

We are seeking a driven, and high-performing individual who can contribute to the growth of the MNCH pillar within the organization and support scaling-up high-impact programs at focus/strategic locations. S/he will have exceptional problem-solving skills and the ability to harness evidence and cost-effectiveness analysis to make informed decisions. S/he will bring strong relationship management capabilities, effective communication skills and experience in working in a cross-functional team environment.

This position can be located in Washington, D.C. or New Delhi, India.

Key Responsibilities:

While Evidence Action has strict criteria around cost-effectiveness, evidence, and scale which guide our work, we are open to pursuing impact opportunities across global health. Thus, the selected candidate will have the opportunity to work on a wide range of program areas within the MNCH domain.

Program Development

  • Contribute to the growth on the MNCH pillar by identifying new high-impact interventions and work in collaboration with the New Program Development team and the Cost-Effectiveness team to appropriately evaluate these interventions as per the Evidence Action criteria.
  • Identify high-impact interventions and contribute to the evaluation of the select interventions through Evidence Action’s rigorous criteria.
  • Work in collaboration with the Evidence Action country teams and assist with designing effective delivery models to scale-up the interventions.
  • Undertake scoping activities in-countries to inform the feasibility of launching new programs.
  • Support early implementation activities including surveys and pilots, to prove the concept and optimize the model.

Donor and Partner Relationships

  • Build and leverage relationships with key stakeholders within the MNCH global health domain including government, implementers, donors, bi/multilaterals, and researchers.
  • Present program strategies and progress to a wide array to stakeholders including donors, normative bodies, country governments and internal leadership

Program Management

  • Cultivate trust-based relationships with in-country program managers to support the scale-up of programs and to ensure that key program goals and milestones are met.
  • Identify and communicate programmatic risks to the senior leadership team as needed.
  • Work in collaboration with the new program development and in-country teams to develop and execute on work-plans across program areas being developed/incubated.

Required Qualifications:

Evidence Action seeks a dynamic leader to build upon and enhance its impressive early record. The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to the organization’s mission. S/he should be a proven self-starter and builder, comfortable with ambiguity and a fast-paced environment.

  • 3- 5 years of relevant professional experience in demanding and results-driven environments, such as management consulting or a fast-paced international NGO
  • Bachelors degree
  • Experience in managing or being a part of a successful project team - in an entrepreneurial, dynamic, fast-paced environment;
  • Experience working in a developing country context, preferably experience engaging closely with the government.
  • Ability to independently represent Evidence Action in high-stakes meetings with government stakeholders, donors, international NGOs, bilaterals and multilaterals.
  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical skills and an understanding of evidence and cost-effectiveness. Comfort using imperfect data to make meaningful contributions to the leadership decisions making process;
  • Strong interpersonal skills: The ability to work across several matrixed cross-functional and high-performance teams and a wide range of internal and external global health stakeholders;
  • Able to travel internationally, up to 30%.
  • Alignment with Evidence Action’s values.
