The Policy Associate will support the execution of the international advocacy strategy for a programme focused on Freedom of Religion and Belief, implemented in Iraq, Kenya, Mali, and Nigeria. The project is carried out in a consortium. The Associate will be joining Search’s Europe team at an exciting time with the launch of an ambitious multi-year, multi-country policy program and implementation of Search’s new global advocacy strategy. The Associate will be crucial in supporting the implementation of this strategy as it aligns to the mentioned program. The optimal candidate is a team worker and a passionate advocate.

The Policy Associate is an integral part of the European Affairs and Partnerships (EAP) team, located in Search’s Europe headquarters in Brussels, and will have a close affiliation to Search’s Religious Engagement Unit, and the Global Policy and Outreach team. The Associate will work closely with the consortium, with relevant country teams and with the global policy team.

The recruitment is conditional on signing the relevant grant agreement.

Responsibilities

  • Supports outreach and representation efforts, attending and representing Search at external events and meetings, supporting peer engagement, and contributing to the development of outreach strategies.
  • Conducts desk and primary research, drafting components of policy content, providing direct support to field-based colleagues.
  • Supports knowledge and information management for the team, including collecting and analyzing data, and developing and updating tracking systems.

Contributions

  • Contributes to social media and media components of strategies and tracks policies, statements, media, and social media relevant to the team’s priorities.
  • Represents Search at events and briefings and synthesizes information for sharing.
  • Supports the design and execution of Search-hosted events.
  • Supports briefings, written products, and strategy development through activities such as desk and primary research, copy editing, drafting policy content, providing direct support to field-based colleagues,
  • coordinating sign ons, scheduling working group meetings, and sharing materials.
  • Gathers monitoring and evaluation data on advocacy and outreach efforts and analyzes results.
  • Ensures information and knowledge are accurately captured in trackers and systems.
  • Responds to questions from the consortium and colleagues across the organization and to outreach-
  • relevant requests in a timely and customer-service oriented fashion.
  • Other duties that are broadly in line with the above key contributions as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science, Religion, International Relations, Conflict Studies, or related area;
  • At least three years of relevant work experience in the international NGO sector;
  • Solid understanding of religion and conflict;
  • Advocacy experience at EU level: liaising with policymakers, NGOs, academics, media and other relevant stakeholders;
  • Written and spoken fluency in English;
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills. Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment;
  • High level of organization, detail-oriented, and professionalism.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree preferred, but not required;
  • Experience living or working experience in a conflict geography where Search works preferred;
  • Experience of peacebuilding related work in Iraq, Mali, Nigeria or Kenya preferred;
  • Fluency in another European language – French, and/or Dutch preferred
  • Familiarity with EU policy making on Freedom of Religion and Belief preferred;
  • Advocacy experience with policy makers in the UK and US preferred;
  • Experience of advocacy campaigns carried out in coalition preferred.

Salary indication: 2750-2850 EUR/month gross based on experience + standard benefits (22 days of annual leave, double vacation pay, meal voucher, life insurance, transport allocation).
