About the role

As an advisory organization, cFactual helps clients become more cost-effective and improve the world by providing strategic, research, and operations support. To further this mission, we are seeking an experienced and strategic Chief of Staff to support our Executive Director, Jona Glade, in maximizing cFactual's impact. The role will be tailored based on the candidate's seniority level to best contribute to our goals. For more senior versions of this role, we envision a Chief of Staff who can help build and run cFactual, independently manage projects, lead select components of cFactual's service offerings, serve as the "Head of Fellowships" by overseeing our fellowship program, and liaise with the operations team on key operational needs and initiatives. For more junior versions of this role, the focus will be on supporting the Executive Director in strategic planning, assisting with project coordination and task management, facilitating the fellowship program, and handling day-to-day management and operational tasks.

As Chief of Staff, you will work closely with Jona, who spearheads client development and delivery, and collaborate with our team overseeing client operations support and internal operations. By taking ownership of crucial areas, you will enable our leadership to focus on the highest-impact activities. Your work will directly contribute to cultivating fellows and helping clients generate greater impact.

    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of project documentation
  • Fellowship management
    • Facilitate the fellowship program
      • Assist with day-to-day fellowship operations and administration
      • Support the Executive Director in managing fellows and the fellowship program
  • Day-to-day management
    • Internal people operations, serving as the first point of contact for team members, clients, and external partners, drafting meeting agendas, and providing ad hoc support to the Executive Director
  • Operations
    • Assist with invoicing, bookkeeping, and hour tracking
    • Plan and coordinate retreats
    • Provide support to our operations team on an ad hoc basis
  • Stakeholder engagement and communications: learn the ins and outs of cFactual’s operations to share ownership of the following responsibilities with the Executive Director
    • Build and maintain systematic relationships with key stakeholders, especially in the effective altruism community (e.g., client relationships, external partners)
    • Contribute to the development of materials that showcase our insights (e.g., reports, presentations)

  • Ensure timely delivery, adherence to scope, and alignment with organizational objectives
  • Manage small-scale client projects (e.g., organization scoping)
  • Serve as “Head of Fellowships” by independently managing our fellowship program
    • Manage cFactual's fellows and oversee the fellowship program
    • Be the first point of contact for fellows
    • Drive fellowship meetings and own key fellowship initiatives (e.g., check-ins regarding fellowship progress)
