Introduction
The Alliance for Peacebuilding (AfP) is a nonpartisan network of 130+ organizations working in 181 countries to end violent conflict and build peace. Our members include some of the world’s largest development organizations, most innovative academic institutions, and most influential humanitarian and faith-based groups. We build coalitions in key areas of strategy and policy to elevate the entire peacebuilding field, tackling issues too large for any one organization to address alone.

 Role Summary
AfP is seeking a part-time, dynamic Policy & Advocacy Assistant to support our vital Policy and Advocacy work. Duties will primarily include support to AfP’s Policy & Advocacy team and initiatives. The Policy & Advocacy Assistant will also provide general assistance to the P&A team, such as communications to AfP members, drafting policy-related letters and statements, updating the website and AfP’s Digests, supporting research on policy initiatives, and other tasks as needed.

The Policy & Advocacy Assistant position is 20 hours a week and will accommodate a flexible schedule. The proposed timeframe is June – August 2021. This is a paid position.

AfP is working remotely for the foreseeable future. Should AfP return to its office in Washington, DC during the summer of 2021, the Policy and Advocacy Assistant may be asked to join staff in-person depending on the global health situation.

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate or graduate (preferred) student studying international affairs, conflict resolution, or a related subject;
  • Previous professional workplace experience;
  • Excellent writing skills and attention to detail;
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines;
  • Enthusiasm for and commitment to AfP’s mission of harnessing collective action for peace;
  • Proactive, independent, and team-oriented work ethic;
  • Strong computer and social media skills, including administering Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn accounts; and
  • Knowledge and familiarity with Congress Plus, Canva, Photoshop, and InDesign a plus.
